About us
Upbeat Communities is a charity based in Derby that works with refugees across Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Our mission is to empower refugees to thrive as they rebuild their lives. We achieve this by focusing activities on three key areas: Welcome, Empowerment, and Awareness Raising.
The services we deliver include welcome support for new arrivals, language classes, support groups, and community meals at our Integration Hub, day trips, summer holiday clubs for refugee children, emergency accommodation through our Host Derby project, pre- and post-natal support for new mothers, support for people hosting Ukrainian arrivals, and much more.
Upbeat Communities' Christian ethos is the motivation behind why the charity was started and the basis for the values that we hold as an organisation. Jesus's primary message was 'to love your neighbour as you love yourselves' and we are inspired to show love and compassion to refugees who have been displaced by war, conflict or persecution. Our staff team make up a range of nationalities, faiths and life experiences, and we wish for this to continue so that our team is representative of the diverse communities we serve.
