Zana's Story | Finding Hope & Belonging at Upbeat Communities
Zana (not his real name) came to the UK from the Middle East. This is his story of finding hope and belonging at Upbeat Communities.
Upbeat Communities means more than just an organisation to me. It is a place where I feel like I have a home, a family, and everyone I meet there is very friendly and sincere without exception. When I first arrived, I was able to endure the longing for my family, my past, and the pressure this situation created thanks to Upbeat.
My time working as a volunteer taught me a lot. I improved my language skills, my friendships improved and it gave me the opportunity to get to know people.
The staff and volunteers at Upbeat were always there for me and I am very glad that I got to know them. Also, our teachers taught me things that will never be forgotten. Of course, I cannot help but mention my friend Don (Upbeat Volunteer). I am grateful to him for all the time he spent with me.
Upbeat will always be a home and a shelter for me. Many refugees in difficult situations need Upbeat, and unfortunately the world continues to be more and more difficult for refugees. Upbeat helped me every time I consulted you about all the events in my life and this is very valuable to me. Thank you.
