One donation, twice the impact

30th November is an important day. From midday, for one week only, every donation made to Upbeat Communities will be DOUBLED.

Seeking asylum in a foreign country is often a frightening and lonely experience. As our friend Tugba told us,

“When you first land in a country, in this situation, it is so hard. Because, one week ago or one month ago you are a normal person, you have a job, you have everything that you may have. But, suddenly, everything goes upside-down. And you are in a country, you are landed, and you cannot mention about your skills, you cannot work, you cannot have friends so easily because you feel different. You feel foreign.”

We want to raise £20,000 to fund our Integration Hub – a safe space in the centre of Derby for refugees to come, learn English, make friends, and engage in activities that will support them as they rebuild their lives. We want more refugees to be empowered the way Tugba has been:

“Upbeat makes you feel like you belong to this place now, and you are okay … And they accept you because you are an important human being.”
